Party Ideology
The 2008 Political Party Law states that political parties are allowed to include certain characteristics that reflect their political aspirations, as long as they do not conflict with Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution. Although based on Islam, the PKB identifies as a religious nationalist party. Therefore, from the beginning of its establishment, the PKB has always stated itself as an open party in the sense of crossing religions, ethnicities, races, and classes. The PKB often differs in direction from Nahdlatul Ulama because, although it supports the role of Islam in governance, the PKB does not have the same support as the older organization for an Islamic republic explicitly. For example, the PKB supported the Miss World 2013 event held in Bali even though it was rejected by NU and other conservative Islamic organizations.
