Ahmad Heryawan was born in Sukabumi, West Java, on June 19, 1966. He completed his elementary to high school education in Sukabumi, while he pursued his undergraduate studies at the Sharia Faculty of LIPIA Jakarta and graduated in 1992. Ahmad Heryawan's political career began as a member of the DKI Jakarta Regional House of Representatives in 1999. He is also active in nurturing various social foundations, community empowerment, and the environment. In addition to being known as a politician and preacher, Ahmad Heryawan has taught at several universities. Since 2004 until now, Ahmad Heryawan has served as the Chairman of the PB Persatuan Umat Islam (PUI). He has also held the position of Deputy Chairman of the DKI Jakarta Provincial DPRD for the 2004-2009 period. In 2008, Ahmad Heryawan was elected Governor of West Java for the 2008-2013 period.
