Ashari Tambunan, born on May 18, 1956 in Medan, North Sumatra, is an Indonesian politician who currently serves as a member of the DPR-RI for the 2024–2029 period representing the electoral district of North Sumatra I from the National Awakening Party (PKB). Before sitting in the national parliament, Ashari was widely known as the Regent of Deli Serdang for two terms, from 2014 to 2023. Ashari completed his primary and secondary education in Medan. He then continued his studies at the University of Indonesia and earned a Bachelor of Laws degree. Before entering the political arena, Ashari worked in the private sector. His political career began to stand out when he was elected as the Regent of Deli Serdang. He served for two terms and was known as a leader who was close to the community. In the 2018 regional election, he was re-elected as Regent with a landslide victory against the empty box, receiving more than 82% of the vote. In the 2024 election, Ashari was elected as a member of the DPR-RI and entrusted to represent the aspirations of the North Sumatra I community in Senayan. Source: Wikipedia
