Sitorus was born in Jakarta on July 12, 1968, and attended school in the city until graduating high school in 1987. After that, he earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from University of Arizona in 1991, and then continued his studies to obtain an MBA from Creighton University in 1993. After completing his education, Sitorus began his professional career as an accountant at PT Freeport Indonesiauntil 1995, then briefly worked at Indonesia Stock Exchange. In his business journey, he also owned a palm oil plantation in the Malukuregion, and became the owner of a Belgian football club, F.C.V.
