Ir. H. Tifatul Sembiring, S.Kom. (born September 28, 1961) is a senior Indonesian politician known as the former Chairman of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and has served as The Minister of Communication and Information Technology of the Republic of Indonesia in the United Indonesia Cabinet II (2009–2014). Tifatul Sembiring comes from a multi-ethnic family background. His father is from the Karo tribe and migrated to Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, where he later married a Minangkabau woman. In Minangkabau custom, Tifatul was bestowed the title Datuk Tumangguang and became the head of the clan in Guguak Tabek Sarojo, Agam Regency, West Sumatra. He married Sri Rahayu, and from this marriage, they were blessed with seven children, namely: Sabrina, Fathan, Ibrahim, Yusuf, Fatimah, Muhammad, and Abdurrahman Sembiring. Tifatul pursued higher education at Jakarta College of Management, Informatics and Computer (STI&K), and obtained a bachelor's degree in computer engineering. During his college years, he was active in various Islamic organizations, including Indonesian Islamic Students (PII) and other youth organizations, which shaped his political and social views later on.
